The approach to this publication, which consisted in recuperating the image and memory of the National Institute of Colonization through its photographic archive, encounters its best counterpart in a selection of texts written by the authors of the ‘housing villages’ or by their contemporaries and that accompany the discourse of the book.
Many of these texts illustrate the intentions and discoveries of these works, written during the realization of these projects or in the following few years. Others outline the theoretic and doctrinal context of the architecture of those years. In their totality, all evoke the darkness of these years nevertheless enlightened by this new constellation of ‘housing villages’ realized by the National Institute of Colonization.
