The Summer Architectural Workshop 2019 THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE SENSES is a month-long Architectural Projects workshop held at the Francisco de Vitoria University.
How is the world experienced? What is the point of contact between everything that we are not and ourselves? That wonderful point of contact occurs through the senses, our way of relating to the world. Do we know them enough? What happens when someone fails? Can science or art improve the experience of our lives through stimulation and understanding of the senses? They seem questions worthy of study.
Architecture has the ability to wrap our bodies in different senses thus intensifying our relationship with the world. As a skilled surgeon, he is able to enrich our lives by touching where it is necessary through the senses.
The first step for sensory research should be a building that houses it, but also puts it into practice: that takes a deep look at the heart of the things that will happen inside.
The course will consist of the development of this project over four weeks, taking into account all the phases of the project: analysis of place and program, ideation and conceptualization, development, structure and materiality
Accompanied by an extraordinary teaching team, students will work on the design of a Sensory Research Institute designed to study the senses and the way in which people relate to the world. The site is located in one of the most emblematic areas of Madrid, next to the Royal Palace, the Almudena Cathedral, the Museum of the Royal Collections and San Francisco el Grande, with paintings by Goya and Zubarán.
